Monthly Challenges:

  1. (required) Let’s just go ahead and start BIG. What is it that you’ve been secretly (or not-so-secretly) dreaming about creating or experiencing in your life? Take a minimum of 15 minutes (set a timer) and write them all out in a list. They may be things you’ve daydreamed about since you were much younger, or since last week sitting at your desk or washing dishes. Perhaps you had an exhilarating experience and your heart said “YES more of this, please!” and it’s been floating around in the recesses of your mind from time to time. LIST THEM ALL, no matter how little, big, ridiculous, or crazy. Some prompts to try : I wish I could… It would be really fun to… If I had the time/money, I would… If I wasn’t afraid I would… It would feel so good to… If I weren’t afraid of what people thought, I would… Once you get rolling, keep going until you’re empty. If you are empty before 15 minutes are up, try some of the different prompts, and allow yourself to write ANYTHING down on the paper, regardless of what the voices in your head might be telling you about it.

    (In case you need some examples to get the ball rolling, here are some of mine: ✧ become a falconer ✧ march in a drum corps again ✧ participate in a community theater production ✧ grow the adventure league into a worldwide community of over a thousand amazing humans ✧ cover my RV in glitter as I travel the country in it ✧ join a performance group where I get to sing ✧ take aerial circus classes until I’m good at it ✧ send someone a postcard every single day ✧ dye my hair pink ✧ live in Spain and get really good at my Spanish ✧ swim with dolphins ✧ get my hanggliding certification ✧ visit Disney World ✧)

    Done with that? Great. Now. Take a look back at your extensive wish list, and give a star to the ones that really give you a thrill. (And maybe you also find them slightly terrifying.)Choose THREE, including AT LEAST ONE from the thrilling/terrifying subset, and TAKE TWO BOLD ACTIONS for each of them.

    (For example I might choose to: pressure wash my RV and order the glitter, dye my hair pink and post about it on my social media, talk to someone new every day about the adventure league and commit to posting about it on Facebook in a really fun and interesting way every single day…)

    You have a whole month to do this, and we’ll all be doing it alongside you so BE BOLD!!! And watch your life start to change ♥ Last step - share about your bold actions and the results of your bold actions in our group!

  2. Create a piece of art! Any medium you want. It does not matter how much artistic ability you have or don’t have. Get creative. Play. In some way or another, it must include a whale, a feather, the color orange, the letter v, chaos, focus, and brilliance. Share it with at least 3 people in your life, at least two of which are not related to you, and share it with us in the group!

  3. Do some physical LEAPING (in a safe way, of course!!!) This might be ziplining, high-diving, bungee jumping, skydiving, a trampoline park, jumps at a skateboard park or whatever else you think of…. pick something that’s out of character for you, and a bit of a stretch. Then share a video about it in the group!!

  4. Start an Adventure Fund. This could be as simple as a jar, a separate bank account, or as complex as you want to make it. Make it a habit of adding to it a minimum of three times per week. Create a structure, for example maybe a card with boxes you color in when you’ve donated to your Adventure Fund. Share what you’ve created in the group, and your vision for spending it.

  5. Who are the great leapers of the planet? Who or what pops into your head? Human? Non-human? Invention? Make a visit to one and really get to know them. Interview them (if possible), or talk to a knowledgable expert about them, and report back to the group with your experience and what you learned. What gem of wisdom can be applied to your life? We’ll collect all of the submissions and create a beautiful compilation for our members in November.

  6. Go to a high place. As high as you can possibly get. Spend a minimum of 20 minutes there. Allow yourself to receive the wisdom of the place. Be with it. Be in it. Record your experience and share it in the group.

  7. Crack open the book “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks. (You can order it in various formats, including audio, here: https://amzn.to/2PZohFD ). Attend Adventure League Book Night where we’ll share our thoughts and experiences in-person!! Book night will take place virtually on Zoom 7:30-9pm Eastern Time on Wed. September 26th.
